What can MyJotter do for me?
MyJotter allows you to record a voice message and have it automatically transcribed to text and
delivered to your chosen destination - email or mobile phone.
Think of the possibilities. Recording a voice message takes a fraction of the time it would take
you to type it.
You can send voice-to-text messages and emails to your friends and business colleagues, or simply record
information and send it to your own email address for you yourself to deal with later.
You can send voice-to-text messages safely while driving.
You can send voice-to-text messages while walking, sitting in a taxi, waiting in an airport lounge - anywhere, in fact,
where it would be inefficient, inconvenient, or even hazardous to key in the information using your laptop or PDA.
Using the MyJotter voice-to-text system, busy business people get a two-way benefit: they save time and they
become much more systematic in their recording and reporting of essential information.
How do I use MyJotter?
-
Call the MyJotter number.
-
When you hear the tone, say how the message is to be sent and who it is to be sent to -
e.g. "Text message to Sally Smith".
-
Speak your message.
-
Depending on how you say the message is to be sent, it will be transcribed into text and sent to
your chosen destination in one of the following forms:
- As an Email sent to a specified email address (including your own), or
- As an SMS Text Message sent to a specified mobile phone (including your own).
-
Optionally, you can receive a confirmation message to tell you that your voice-to-text message has been processed.
How, exactly, do I speak a MyJotter voice-to-text message?
Here are some examples of voice messages that you might want to speak:
"Text message to Jim Odell Please confirm lunch tomorrow is still OK."
"Email To Lucy Brown. Subject: Agenda items urgent. Message: I have a number of issues for the agenda for tomorrow's meeting. Could we please have a telephone discussion about this sometime this afternoon?"
"Anton will be arriving Paddington next Monday at 12.15"
The first two examples assume that Jim Odell and
Lucy Brown are both entries in your
MyJotter Contacts List.
In example 3 there is no addressee - so the message will be sent to your Default Destination Address.
When you first register, this is your own email address.
What is the MyJotter Contacts List?
When you sign up for the MyJotter service, we provide you with free space to build
your own private electronic Contacts List on the MyJotter.com website.
This is where you store the email addresses and/or mobile phone numbers of all the people
to whom you may wish to send voice-to-text messages.
Having established your MyJotter Contacts List, when, for example, you want to send an email
to Sally Brown's email address, instead of having to speak the email address itself you just say
"Email to Sally Brown" followed by your message.
Provided there is an entry in your Contacts List for Sally Brown,
the message will be automatically delivered to her email address.
You can easily create a new entry in your Contacts List any time by logging in
to your account, selecting MyContacts and then clicking on New Contact.
Also, you can bulk-transfer contact details from several address list sources such as Outlook Express,
Outlook, Lotus Notes and your mobile phone's address list.
What is the Default Destination Address?
If you speak a MyJotter voice-to-text message without saying how or where the message is to be sent,
the message will be sent to your Default Destination Address.
When you first sign up to MyJotter, your Default Destination Address is set to your own email address.
So you can easily use MyJotter a bit like a pocket digital recorder, quickly recording speaking vital information as it
occurs to you, knowing that it will be transcribed to text and sent to your own email inbox for later retrieval.
In other situations, users may want to use their Default Destination Addresses in different ways. For example:
-
A field service engineer could set the Default Destination Address to his Service Centre's emergency email address.
-
A senior executive might set the Default Destination Address to the email address of her Personal Assistant.
You can easily change your Default Destination Address any time by logging in
to your MyJotter account and clicking on the MySettings button.
How do I know if my message has been delivered?
You can change your MyJotter settings to specify whether or not you want to receive
confirmation messages for all email and SMS messages that you send. You are able to specify where
the confirmation messages are to be sent - either to an email address or to a mobile phone.
In the event that a message cannot be delivered, the confirmation message will tell
you why. For example, maybe the recipient you specified in the message could not be
found in your MyContacts list.
You can easily change your message confirmation setting any time by logging in
to your MyJotter account and clicking on the MySettings button.
Can I read a copy of the transcribed text? Can I listen to my original voice message?
Yes. The MyJotter system logs every message you send. You can
view your messages at any time by logging in to your account and selecting MyLog.
The log shows the time and date of each message along with your calling phone number,
the length of the call, the number of words transcribed, the type of message (email or SMS)
and the destination address to which it was sent.
You can double click on any log entry to view the corresponding transcribed text. Then you can
click on the 'playback' arrow on the Media Player to listen to your original voice recording.
How much does it cost to use MyJotter?
When you dial the MyJotter number, 09067 320380 (UK only) you will be charged according to the length of the call.
Calls cost £1 per min from a BT landline - equivalent to 1.7p/sec. (Tariff A)
For example, the message "Text to Sally Smith. I missed the early train but should be home at 8.00pm" takes
about 10 seconds to speak - in which case it would cost you 17p.
Please note that some non-BT tariffs may vary from the above. We advise you to check with your service provider.
Alternatively, you can take out an account with MyJotter, in which case you will be charged at the rate
of 1p per word transcribed. (Tariffs B or C).

How does the MyJotter system work?
MyJotter uses skilled human transcribers - not automatic speech recognition technology. Extensive tests have
shown that only human operators are sufficiently capable of recognising the correct words in
continuous speech, because they are able to understand the content and context of the sentence in which they are spoken.
When you dictate a MyJotter voice-to-text message into your phone, the message is recorded and automatically forwarded
over the Internet to one of our operators. The message is transcribed into typewritten form and the text version is
forwarded to your chosen destination.
The transaction is secure and anonymous. The operator doesn't know who you are and, likewise, you don't have
any contact with him or her. Similarly, details of your contacts (email addresses and mobile numbers) are not shown - only
the names that you have chosen for them.
Accredited MyJotter Transcribers are located in several countries around the world, thus providing you with
a reliable 24 x 7 transcription service.
All our Transcribers are required to follow a strict Code of Practice and to conform to agreed
MyJotter Quality of Service rules.
